For Immediate Release
At this weekend's Libertarian Party State Convention, Barry Campbell was nominated as the Party's candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 7th District of Indiana, which includes most of Marion county.
His candidacy began earlier this year along with a protest of the property tax funded primary election process imposed on all citizens of the state of Indiana by the Republican and Democrat parties. As stated in the protest flyer, "While politicians are quick to threaten school funding when they want to raise or 'reassess' property taxes, they neglect to mention that they use property tax money to fund the selection of many of their candidates."
"It starts my campaign off right to know that my candidacy has cost the taxpayers nothing, while all of my opponents take advantage of property tax money before anyone is elected."
Reducing the costs and extravagances of the federal government are at the heart of Campbell's campaign, along with reducing taxes and providing for our nation's defense.
"It makes no sense to reduce taxes without reducing costs. Otherwise, you are only increasing the debts our children will have to pay.
It makes no sense to continually increase funding to federal programs that continually fail. I will oppose funding any federal government program that the Constitution does not authorize the federal government to undertake; and that is not my idea, that is what the 10th Amendment says. I simply want to enable everyone to make their own choices, as they once could, regarding such things as education, healthcare, and their own retirement.
And it makes no sense that we spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year on military functions throughout the world, with armed forces in more countries than most people could name, yet we are not secure in our own country."
Barry Campbell was born and raised on the northeast side of Indianapolis. Now 42 years old, he lives on the near southeast side with his wife Robin, and 5 year-old daughter Christine. A graduate of Lawrence Central high school and Valparaiso University, Barry currently works in retail loss prevention. Barry is the administrator of a college scholarship program presented by the Libertarian Party of Marion County, as well as the director of the Champions of Liberty award program also presented by the Libertarian Party of Marion County. Barry was also the Libertarian candidate for Sheriff of Marion County in 2002.
